Stocks Opened Higher on Easing Trade Tensions

U.S. stocks opened in record territory on Tuesday, a day after a U.S.-Mexico agreement help to momentarily ease lingering tariff worries. The Dow Jones Industrial Average lately rose 54.28 points, or 0.21%, to 26,103.92. The S&P 500 added 4.99 points, or 0.17%, to 2,901.73. The Nasdaq Composite gained 17.84 points, or 0.22%, to 8,035.73.

Crude-oil futures attempted to extend a winning streak to three sessions Tuesday as investors maintained a mostly bullish bent on prices following signs of receding output among major oil producers across the globe. West Texas Intermediate crude for October delivery added 6 cents, or 0.1%, to reach $68.33 a barrel. October Brent crude added 47 cents, or 0.6%, to $76.68 a barrel.

For the third straight month home prices increased at a slower pace. Standard & Poor’s said Tuesday that its S&P CoreLogic Case-Shiller national home price index reported a 6.2% annual gain in June, down from 6.4% a month earlier. The 20-City Composite posted a 6.3% annual gain.
