Stocks Opened Higher on Earnings, Trade Optimism

U.S. stocks opened higher on Tuesday, helped by some encouraging earnings reports and optimism over trade talks between the United States and China. The Dow Jones Industrial Average lately rose 86.49 points, or 0.34%, to 25,845.18. The S&P 500 added 10.89 points, or 0.38%, to 2,867.94. The Nasdaq Composite gained 43.39 points, or 0.55%, to 7,864.39.

Oil futures traded modestly higher on Tuesday, as investors watched U.S. sanctions against Iran for the potential to disrupt global supplies. West Texas Intermediate crude for September delivery was up 60 cents, or 0.9%, at $67.03 a barrel. October Brent crude climbed 23 cents, or 0.3%, to $72.44 a barrel.
