Stocks Opened Higher following World Shares

U.S. stocks opened higher on Tuesday following a broad run-up in global equity markets that market participants attributed in part to a rebound in China’s stock market. The Dow Jones Industrial Average lately climbed 158.16 points, or 0.62%, to 25,660.34. The S&P 500 rose 10.26 points, or 0.36%, to 2,860.66. The Nasdaq Composite rose 27.83 points, or 0.35%, to 7,887.51.

Oil prices rose on Tuesday with revived U.S. sanctions against Iran seen possibly tightening global supplies, especially after Saudi Arabia’s production had also recently contracted. West Texas Intermediate futures for September delivery rose 55 cents, or 0.8%, to $69.58 a barrel. Brent crude for October was up 83 cents, or 1.1%, to $74.58 a barrel.
