Stocks Ended Up amid Earnings Optimism

U.S. stocks closed higher on Monday as better-than-expected earnings reports continued to provide support to the main benchmarks. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 39.60 points, or 0.16%, to 25,502.18. The S&P 500 gained 10.05 points, or 0.35%, to 2,850.40. The Nasdaq Composite added 47.66 points, or 0.61%, to 7,859.68.

Crude-oil prices settled higher Monday on the back of a pair of factors that threaten to disrupt near-term supplies — bullish developments for futures. West Texas Intermediate futures for September delivery rose 52 cents, or 0.8%, to settle at $69.01 a barrel. Brent crude for October was up 54 cents, or 0.7%, to end at $73.75 a barrel.
