Stocks Ended Mostly Higher on Strong Earnings

U.S. stocks ended mostly higher on Tuesday as corporate earnings continued to surprise on the upside. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 197.65 points, or 0.79%, to 25,241.94. The S&P 500 rose 13.42 points, or 0.48%, to 2,820.40. The Nasdaq Composite slipped 1.10 points, or 0.01%, to 7,840.77.

Crude-oil futures ended higher Tuesday, finding support amid concerns over underlying tensions between the U.S. and Iran that could further disrupt supply to the global market and as China prepared to stimulate its economy. September West Texas Intermediate crude rose 63 cents, or 0.9%, to settle at $68.52 a barrel. September Brent crude finished 38 cents higher at $73.44 a barrel, up 0.5%.
