Stocks Traded Mostly Lower at Open

U.S. stocks opened mostly lower on Thursday, as uncertainty over trade policy weighed on investor sentiment. The Dow Jones Industrial Average lately fell 120.38 points, or 0.49%, to 24,537.42. The S&P 500 was off 6.14 points, or 0.22%, to 2,761.18. The Nasdaq Composite was down 9.80 points, or 0.13%, to 7,771.72.

Oil prices headed lower on Thursday, after media reports said Iran might accept a modest increase in production at this week’s OPEC summit.West Texas Intermediate crude was down 58 cents, or 0.9%, at $65.12 a barrel. Brent was off $1.04, or 1.4%, at $73.70 a barrel.

The number of Americans losing their jobs fell for the fourth week in a row in mid-June, keeping the rate of layoffs near levels last seen in the early 1970s. Initial jobless claims declined by 3,000 to 218,000 in the seven days ended June 16.

Intel Corp on Thursday said Chief Executive Officer Brian Krzanich has resigned, effective immediately, after a probe revealed that a past consensual relationship with an Intel employee violated company policy.
