Stocks Opened Mixed, Tech Led Nasdaq Higher

U.S. stocks opened mixed on Tuesday, with a surge in technology stocks driving gains on the Nasdaq. The Dow Jones Industrial Average lately fell 14.96 points, or 0.06%, to 24,798.73. The S&P 500 added 1.90 points, or 0.07%, to 2,748.77. The Nasdaq Composite gained 25.55 points, or 0.34%, to 7,632.01.

Oil prices were clawing back some ground on Tuesday, rebounding modestly on the heels of the weakest settlement in two months. July West Texas Intermediate crude rose 28 cents, or 0.4%, to $65.02 a barrel. August Brent crude rose 20 cents, or 0.2%, to $75.44 a barrel.

Hudson’s Bay Co. agreed to sell Gilt, a flash-sale, e-commerce company it bought two years ago. The buyer, Rue La La, announced the purchase on Monday without disclosing a price, and said it plans to run the two sites independently and hire 150 people.
