Stocks Ended Mostly Lower Friday, Booked Weekly Gains

U.S. stocks closed mostly lower on Friday, but all three main benchmarks posted weekly gains. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 58.67 points, or 0.24%, to 24,753.09. The S&P 500 lost 6.43 points, or 0.24%, to 2,721.33. The Nasdaq Composite added 9.43 points, or 0.13%, to 7,433.85. For the week, the Dow posted a 0.2% gain, the S&P 500 added 0.3% and the Nasdaq Composite gained 1.1%.

Oil prices plunged on Friday to finish at their lowest levels in weeks, as reports said OPEC and Russia are considering lifting production by as much as 1 million barrels a day to meet the shortfall in supply from Iran and Venezuela.July West Texas Intermediate crude oil slumped $2.83, or 4%, to settle at $67.88 a barrel. July Brent oil declined $2.35, or 3%, to $76.44 a barrel.

PepsiCo Inc said on Friday it would buy baked fruit and vegetable snack maker Bare Foods Co, as the food and beverage company expands its fast-growing healthy snack portfolio.

The Trump administration told lawmakers the U.S. government has reached a deal to put Chinese telecommunications company ZTE Corp back in business, a senior congressional aide said on Friday.
