Stocks Ended at Two-month Highs

U.S. stocks closed solidly higher on Monday, as concerns over a potential trade war with China showed signs of fading. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 298.20 points, or 1.21%, to 25,013.29. The S&P 500 gained 20.04 points, or 0.74%, to 2,733.01. The Nasdaq Composite added 39.70 points, or 0.54%, to 7,394.04. Both the Dow and the S&P closed at their highest level in about two months.

Oil futures climbed Monday on fears the U.S. could impose new sanctions on Venezuela following weekend elections in the country that were viewed as illegitimate by the opposition and foreign governments. June West Texas Intermediate crude rose 96 cents, or nearly 1.4%, to settle at $72.24 a barrel. July Brent crude added 71 cents to $79.22 a barrel.
