Stocks Opened Lower, Oil Prices Rose

U.S. stocks opened lower on Wednesday, as rising bond yields continued to be monitored as a possible risk. The Dow Jones industrial average lately fell 171.37 points, or 0.71%, to 23,852.76. The S&P 500 lost 18.50 points, or 0.70%, to 2,616.06. The Nasdaq gave up 70.48 points, or 1.01%, to 6,936.88.

Oil prices rose modestly Wednesday on signs of declining U.S. petroleum inventories. June West Texas Intermediate crude added 20 cents, or 0.3%, to $67.91 a barrel. June Brent added 11 cents, or 0.2%, at $73.86 a barrel.

Twitter Inc.said Wednesday that revenue in its first quarter rose 21% from a year earlier to $664.9 million. The company now has 69 million monthly users in the U.S. and 267 million abroad.
