Stocks Opened Higher on Earnings Optimism

U.S. stocks opened higehr on Thursday, as investors were optimisitic about coming corporate earnings. The Dow Jones Industrial Average lately rose 301.15 points, or 1.24%, to 24,490.60. The S&P 500 gained 26.65 points, or 1.01%, to 2,668.84. The Nasdaq Composite added 76.51 points, or 1.08%, to 7,145.54.

Oil futures wavered Thursday, holding near three-year highs as investors kept a nervous watch on Middle Eastern events. June Brent crude inched lower by 9 cents, or 0.1%, to $71.97 a barrel. May West Texas Intermediate crude was up 7 cents, or 0.1%, to $66.88 a barrel.

BlackRock Inc, the world’s largest asset manager, on Thursday reported a 26.8 percent rise in first-quarter profit, helped by lower tax rate and higher advisory fees. Its net income rose to $1.09 billion, or $6.68 per share, in the quarter ended March 31 from $859 million, or $5.21 per share, a year earlier.
