Stocks Ended Lower, Oil Settled with a Loss

U.S. stocks ended lower on Thursday as the latest round of earnings failed to extend a recent rally. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 83.18 points, or 0.34%, to 24,664.89. The S&P 500 lost 15.51 points, or 0.57%, to 2,693.13. The Nasdaq Composite dropped 57.18 points, or 0.78%, to 7,238.06.

The U.S. oil-price benchmark settled with a loss on Thursday, as major oil producers meeting in Saudi Arabia reportedly said that the market’s global glut of crude supplies has nearly vanished. May West Texas Intermediate crude fell 18 cents, or about 0.3%, to settle at $68.29 a barrel. June Brent gained 30 cents, or 0.4%, to $73.78 a barrel.
