Stocks Ended Higher as Investors Focus on Earnings

U.S. stocks closed higher on Monday, with the biggest boosts from the technology and healthcare sectors as investors turned their focus to earnings season. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 212.90 points, or 0.87%, to 24,573.04. The S&P 500 gained 21.54 points, or 0.81%, to 2,677.84. The Nasdaq Composite added 49.63 points, or 0.70%, to 7,156.28.

Oil ended lower on Monday, giving back some of last week’s sharp gains amid fading worries of potential retaliation from Russia following weekend airstrikes on the country’s ally Syria. May West Texas Intermediate crude fell $1.17, or 1.7%, to settle at $66.22 a barrel. June Brent shed $1.16, or 1.6%, to $71.42 a barrel.

Netflix Inc (NFLX) added more international subscribers than expected in the first quarter. The company said on Monday it signed up 5.46 million subscribers internationally in the quarter.
