Stock Opened Lower as Trade Remained in Focus

U.S. stocks opened mostly lower on Monday, with trade policy still in focus. The Dow Jones Industrial Average lately fell 35.53 points, or 0.15%, to 24,067.58. The S&P 500 lost 17.16 points, or 0.65%, to 2,623.71. The Nasdaq Composite dropped 81.73 points, or 1.16%, to 6,981.72.

China raised import duties on a $3 billion list of U.S. pork, fruit and other products Monday in an escalating tariff dispute with President Donald Trump that companies worry might depress global commerce.

A data breach at department store chains Saks Fifth Avenue, Saks Off Fifth and Lord & Taylor has compromised the personal information of customers who shopped at the stores. The chains’ parent company, Canada-based Hudson’s Bay Co., announced the breach of its store payment systems on Sunday.
