Stocks Ended Lower as Tech, Financials Weighed

U.S. stocks closed lower on Tuesday as the technology and financial sectors came under pressure. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 171.58 points, or 0.71%, to 25,007.03. The S&P 500 dropped 17.71 points, or 0.64%, to 2,765.31. The Nasdaq Composite lost 77.31 points, or 1.02%, to 7,511.01.

Oil prices fell Tuesday, pressured by expectations for further gains in U.S. crude supply and production. U.S. crude fell 1.35% to $60.53 per barrel and Brent was last at $64.40, down 0.85%.

The blocking of Broadcom’s proposed takeover of Qualcomm dragged the entire tech sector lower Tuesday. Trump’s interjection into Broadcom’s months-long bid takeover bid for Qualcomm could signal greater review of deals to come, B. Riley FBR Chief Market Strategist Art Hogan told CNBC.
