Stocks Closed Lower, Led by Tech

U.S. stocks closed lower on Wednesday, as continued weakness in the technology sector weighed on the main indexes. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 9.29 points, or 0.04%, to 23,848.42. The S&P 500 slipped 7.62 points, or 0.29% to 2,605.00. The Nasdaq Composite declined 59.58 points, or 0.85%, to 6,949.23.

Oil prices finished lower on Wednesday, failing at a brief attempt to turn higher in the wake of the latest weekly U.S. report on petroleum supplies. May West Texas Intermediate crude shed 87 cents, or 1.3%, to settle at $64.38 a barrel. May Brent crude fell 58 cents, or 0.8%, to $69.53 a barrel.
