Stocks Opened Higher, Oil Prices Rose

U.S. stocks opened higher on Monday, as investors appeared to focus on President Donald Trump’s infrastructure spending plan. The Dow Jones Industrial Average lately rose 236.77 points, or 0.98%, to 24,453. The S&P 500 added 19.58 points, or 0.75%, to 2,639.13. The Nasdaq Composite gained 54.83 points, or 0.80%, to 6,929.33.

Oil prices moved higher on Monday as global markets rebounded from a week of volatility and selling. West Texas Intermediate futures were trading up $1, or 1.7% at $60.22 a barrel. Brent crude gained 84 cents, or 1.3%, to $60.22 a barrel on London’s ICE Futures exchange.

President Donald Trump is set Monday to unveil a program to transform how the nation’s infrastructure is funded and developed. Trump will propose spending $200 billion over 10 years, competitive grants designed to encourage states and cities to raise their own money for improving rails, airports, highways and water systems.

Global trade in goods will continue growing above trend during the second quarter, the World Trade Organization’s quarterly outlook indicator showed on Monday.
