Stocks Closed Sharply Higher, Led by Technology and Financial

U.S. stocks closed sharply higher on Monday, led by technology and financial shares, with steady bond yields and volatility also helping the stock market bounce back from its worst week in two years. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 410.37 points, or 1.70%, to 24,601.27. The S&P 500 was up 36.45 points, or 1.39%, to 2,656.00. The Nasdaq Composite gained 107.47 points, or 1.56%, to 6,981.96.

Prices for U.S. benchmark crude saw a slight gain Monday, but settled near the session’s lows, as the government forecast a further rise in domestic shale-oil production. March West Texas Intermediate crude added 9 cents, or nearly 0.2%, to settle at $59.29 a barrel. April Brent crude reversed course to lose 20 cents, or 0.3%, to end at $62.59 a barrel.
