Stocks Opened Higher, Dow Resumed Record Run

U.S. stocks opened modestly higher on Tuesday, with the Dow resuming its record run after a pause. The Dow Jones Industrial Average lately gained 60.49 points, or 0.24%, to 25,343.49. The S&P 500 rose 2.10 points, or 0.08%, to 2,749.81. The Nasdaq Composite was down 2.20 points, or 0.03%, to 7,155.19.

Oil prices rose on Tuesday, extending gains from a strong start to the week and on track for fresh three-year highs, as investors awaited an update on U.S. supply. February West Texas Intermediate crude was recently up 44 cents, or 0.7%, at $62.16 a barrel, while March Brent rose 36 cents, or 0.5%, to $68.14.

Microsoft Corp said on Tuesday it had suspended patches to guard against Meltdown and Spectre security threats for some computers running AMD chipsets after complaints by AMD customers that the software updates froze their machines.
