Stocks Ended at Records on Earnings Optimism

U.S. stocks ended at record highs on Thursday as rising oil prices lifted energy stocks and investors bet on a strong U.S. corporate earnings season. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 205.60 points, or 0.81%, to 25,574.73. The S&P 500 gained 19.33 points, or 0.70%, to 2,767.56. The Nasdaq Composite advanced by 58.21 points, or 0.81%, to 7,211.78.

Oil prices marked another three-year high on Thursday, buoyed by a pullback in U.S. production and eight weeks of declines in domestic crude stockpile. February West Texas Intermediate crude rose 23 cents, or 0.4%, to settle at $63.80 a barrel. March Brent crude inched up by 6 cents, or 0.1%, to end at $69.26 a barrel.
