Stocks Ended Modestly Lower, Oil Prices Climbed

U.S. stocks ended lower on Friday after news surrounding former national-security adviser Michael Flynn added an element of political uncertainty into markets. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 40.76 points, or 0.17%, to 24,231.59. The S&P 500 lost 5.36 points, or 0.20%, to 2,642.22. The Nasdaq Composite dropped 26.39 points, or 0.38%, to 6,847.59. The Dow saw a 2.9% weekly rise. The S&P 500 saw a 1.5% weekly gain. The Nasdaq fell 0.6% over the week.

Oil futures climbed Friday, after major oil producers hammered out an agreement that was widely expected, to extend ongoing production curbs through 2018. January WTI crude climbed 96 cents, or 1.7%, to settle at $58.36 a barrel, but it was still down about 1% for the week. February Brent crude put on $1.10, or 1.8%, to $63.73 a barrel, up 0.4% for the week.
