Stocks Ended Lower as Tech Rebound Wilted

U.S. stocks ended lower on Tuesday as a rebound in the technology sector fizzled out. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 109.41 points, or 0.45%, to 24,180.64, the S&P 500 lost 9.87 points, or 0.37%, to 2,629.57 and the Nasdaq Composite dropped 13.15 points, or 0.19%, to 6,762.21.

Oil prices notched a slight gain on Tuesday as OPEC’s agreement to extend production cuts through next year provided support, but also raised expectations for growth in U.S. shale output. January West Texas Intermediate crude edged up by 15 cents, or 0.3%, to settle at $57.62 a barrel. Brent oil for February delivery added 41 cents, or 0.7%, to $62.86 a barrel.
