Stocks Opened Slightly Higher, Oil Traded Flat

U.S. stocks opened mostly higher on Tuesday, as investors awaited updates on tax reform and economic growth. The Dow Jones Industrial Average lately rose 45.27 points, or 0.19%, to 23,593.69. The S&P 500 was up 5.34 points, or 0.21%, to 2,596.47. The Nasdaq Composite added 6.49 points, or 0.10%, to 6,792.93.

Oil prices traded flat to slightly lower Tuesday, following a purge of high-level figures in Saudi Arabia, a key crude producer. December West Texas Intermediate crude dipped by 2 cents, or less than 0.1%, to $57.33 a barrel, while January Brent crude gave up 20 cents, or 0.3%, to $64.07 a barrel.

OPEC said shale oil production will grow considerably faster than expected over the next four years after the group’s output cuts triggered a crude-price recovery that helped U.S.

Tesla Inc. has acquired Perbix, a closely held maker of automated machines used for manufacturing, as the electric-car maker struggles to boost production of its most important new model.
