Stocks Opened Higher, Dow above 24,000

U.S. stocks opened higher on Thursday, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average rising above the 24,000 mark for the first time , supported by a rebound in technology stocks and progress on President Donald Trump’s tax-cut plan. The Dow Jones Industrial Average lately rose 93.78 points, or 0.39%, to 24,034.46. The S&P 500 gained 9.32 points, or 0.35%, to 2,635.39. The Nasdaq Composite added 16.32 points, or 0.24%, to 6,840.71.

Oil prices moved higher on Thursday, as investors grew increasingly optimistic about a market-pleasing outcome from the OPEC meeting underway in Vienna. January West Texas Intermediate crude rose 53 cents, or 0.9%, to $57.83 a barrel. January Brent was up 35 cents, or 0.5%, to $63.46 a barrel.
