Stocks Ended Higher, Lifted by Industrials, Telecoms

U.S. stocks ended higher on Monday, with telecoms and industrials helping to provide a lift. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 72.09 points, or 0.31%, to 23,430.33. The S&P 500 was up 3.29 points, or 0.13%, to 2,582.14. The Nasdaq Composite gained 7.92 points, or 0.12%, to 6,790.71.

Oil prices finished lower on Monday ahead of next week’s meeting of global crude producers. . January WTI crude fell 29 cents, or 0.5%, to finish at $56.42 a barrel. January Brent crude fell 50 cents, or 0.8%, to settle at $62.22 a barrel.

The U.S. Justice Department is poised to sue to block AT&T Inc.’s $85.4 billion takeover of Time Warner Inc., according to a person familiar with the matter, dealing a major blow to the carrier’s bid to create a media and telecommunications empire.
