Stocks Ended Mixed Friday, Posted Weekly Gains

U.S. stocks ended mixed on Friday, with the S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average logged minor losses, as the first monthly decline in U.S. nonfarm jobs in seven years dampened sentiment. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 1.72 points, or 0.01%, to 22,773.67. The S&P 500 lost 2.74 points, or 0.11%, to 2,549.33. The Nasdaq Composite added 4.82 points, or 0.07%, to 6,590.18. For the week, the Dow gained 1.6%, the S&P added 1.2% and the Nasdaq rose 1.45%.

Oil dropped Friday, contributing to a weekly decline of nearly 5% for the U.S. benchmark, as traders tracked Tropical Storm Nate’s path into the Gulf of Mexico and its potential impact on the region’s energy infrastructure. November West Texas Intermediate crude fell $1.50, or 3%, to settle at $49.29 a barrel. December Brent crude fell $1.38, or 2.4%, to $55.62 a barrel.
