Stocks Ended Lower, Retreated from Records

U.S. stocks ended lower on Monday to pause from their streak of record highs, weighed down by a drop in technology and industrial shares. The Dow Jones Industrial Average shed 54.67 points, or 0.23%, to 23,273.96. The S&P 500 fell 10.23 points, or 0.40%, to 2,564.98. The Nasdaq Composite retreated 42.23 points, or 0.64%, to 6,586.83.

Oil struggled to a mixed finish Monday as traders digested upbeat signals from OPEC, supply disruptions in Iraq and a drop in U.S. drilling activity. December West Texas Intermediate crude rose 6 cents, or 0.1%, to settle at $51.90 a barrel. Brent oil fell 38 cents, or 0.7%, to end at $57.37 a barrel.

Shares of General Electric Co. sank Monday to close at a 4 1/2-year low, as another Wall Street analyst threw in the towel on the industrial conglomerate, saying liquidity concerns increase the likelihood of a dividend cut.
