Dow and S&P Inched Up, Ended at Records

U.S. stocks finished mixed on Thursday, with the Dow and S&P 500 inching up in the last minute to secure record finishes, muted data from China and the 30th anniversary of Black Monday. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 5.44 points, or 0.02%, to 23,163.04. The S&P 500 inched up 0.84 point, or 0.03%, to 2,562.10. The Nasdaq Composite slumped 19.15 points, or 0.29%, to 6,605.07.

Oil futures ended lower Thursday, pulling back after four-consecutive sessions of gains lifted prices to their highest levels in weeks. November West Texas Intermediate crude lost 75 cents, or 1.4%, to settle at $51.29 a barrel. December Brent crude fell 92 cents, or 1.6%, to $57.23 a barrel.

Shares of Apple Inc. sank Thursday, to suffer their worst day in over two months, after a report of an Apple Watch snag in China, indications of a potential slow ramp for new iPhones and a selloff in the technology sector.
