Stocks Opened Lower on North Korea Concerns

U.S. stocks opened slightly lower on Friday as geopolitical tensions re-emerged after North Korea threatened to test a hydrogen bomb over the Pacific Ocean this weekend. The Dow Jones Industrial Average lately fell 15.47 points or 0.07%, to 22,343.76. The S&P 500 slipped 1.44 points, or 0.06%, to 2,499.16. The Nasdaq Composite declined 6.90 points, or 0.11%, to 6,415.80.

Crude prices fluctuated between gains and losses Friday while an OPEC meeting was under way amid uncertainty about whether major oil producers will extend a deal to limit supply. November West Texas Intermediate crude lost 5 cents, or 0.1%, to $50.51 a barrel. November Brent crude edged up by 6 cents, or 0.1%, to $56.49 a barrel.

London stripped Uber on Friday of its license to operate from the end of next week in a huge blow to the taxi service and 3.5 million users in one of the world’s wealthiest cities.
