Stocks Opened Higher as North Korea Tensions Eased

U.S. stocks rallied at the open on Monday, as tensions on the Korean peninsula eased slightly. The Dow Jones Industrial Average lately rose 118.78 points, or 0.54%, to 21,977.10. The S&P 500 advanced 19.26 points, or 0.79%, to 2,460.58. The Nasdaq Composite rose 57.51 points, or 0.92%, to 6,314.06.

Oil futures headed modestly lower on Monday, with continued concerns over a supply glut keeping prices under pressure after reports last week showed a rise in OPEC oil production. Crude oil for September delivery lost 32 cents, or 0.7%, to $48.50 a barrel. Brent oil for October declined 40 cents, or 0.8%, to $51.70 a barrel.
