Stocks Ended Mixed, Dow and S&P 500 Eked Out Slight Gains

U.S. stocks ended mixed on Monday, with the Dow industrials and S&P 500 eked out slight gains, while the Nasdaq finished in the red. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 29.24 points, or 0.13%, to 21,703.75. The S&P 500 gained 2.82 points, or 0.12%, to 2,428.37. The Nasdaq Composite dropped 3.40 points, or 0.05%, to 6,213.13.

Oil prices settled lower Monday for the first time in three sessions, giving back most of the gains they saw in the previous session. September West Texas Intermediate crude oil fell by $1.14, or about 2.4%, to settle at $47.37 a barrel. October Brent crude fell $1.06, or 2%, Monday to $51.66 a barrel .
