Stocks Closed Higher Friday, but Down on the Week

U.S. stocks closed higher on Friday, but ended sharply lower on the week as investors continued to weigh tensions between the U.S. and North Korea. he Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 14.31 points, or 0.07%, to 21,858.32. The S&P 500 rose 3.11 points, or 0.13%, to 2,441.32. The Nasdaq Composite added 39.68 points, or 0.64%, to 6,256.56. For the week, the Dow fell 1.1%, the S&P lost 1.4%, and the Nasdaq dropped 1.5%.

Oil prices rose slightly on Friday in volatile trading as the market weighed lower U.S. crude stocks, Nigerian instability and strong global demand growth against a persistently slow rebalancing. U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude was up 23 cents or 0.47 percent to $48.82 a barrel. Brent crude settled up 20 cents or 0.39 percent to $52.10 a barrel.
