Stocks Notched Weekly Gains, Tech Shares Rebounded

U.S. stocks finished higher on Friday as tech stocks rebounded from a slump and as the jobs report showed a higher-than-expected gain for June. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 94.30 points, or 0.44%, to 21,414.34, for a weekly gain of 0.3%. The S&P 500 added 15.43 points, or 0.64%, to 2,425.18, for a less than 0.1% weekly gain. The Nasdaq Composite gained 63.61 points, or 1.04%, to 6,153.08, for a weekly gain of 0.2%.

Oil prices ended sharply lower Friday to tally a loss of nearly 4% for the week. August West Texas Intermediate crude tumbled $1.29, or 2.8%, to settle at $44.23 a barrel.For the week, prices were down roughly 3.9%. September Brent dropped $1.40, or 2.9%, to $46.71 a barrel, with the contract about 4.2% lower on the week.

Sears Holdings (SHLD) on Friday announced a new round of store closings, this one involving 43 locations. The company framed the move as a strategic decision, one that will aid in its hoped-for return to profitability.
