Stocks Ended Mixed, Dow Closed at Record

U.S. stocks end mixed on Friday, with both the S&P 500 and Nasdaq finished slightly lower and the Dow Jones Industrial Average finished at a record. The Dow added 33.76 points, or 0.15%, to 21,830.31 and gained 1.2% over the week. The S&P 500 was down 3.32 points, or 0.13%, to 2,472.10. The benchmark index finished the week roughly where it started. The Nasdaq Composite declined 7.51 points, or 0.12%, to 6,374.68 and ended the week 0.2% lower.

Oil logged a weekly gain of more than 8% Friday—the largest such rise since early December, with prices getting a lift from renewed production-curb commitments from OPEC members as well as uncertainty in Venezuela. September West Texas Intermediate crude rose 67 cents, or 1.4%, to settle at $49.71 a barrel. Brent crude for September added $1.03, or 2%, to settle at $52.52 a barrel.
