Dow Closed at a Record High for 12th Staight Day

U.S. stocks rose on Monday, as the Dow closed at a record high for a twelfth straight day, with investors awaiting a key speech Tuesday night from President Donald Trump. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 15.68 points, or 0.08%, to 20,837.44. The S&P 500 advanced 2.41 points, or 0.10%, to 2,369.75. The Nasdaq Composite gained 16.59 points, or 0.28%, to 5,861.90.

Oil futures barely budged Monday, with a rise in last week’s number of active oil rigs in the U.S. offering another sign that U.S. production is set to contribute to a global glut of supplies. April WTI crude added 6 cents, or 0.1%, to settle at $54.05 a barrel. The April contract for Brent crude fell 6 cents, or 0.1%, to $55.93 a barrel.

Tricon Capital Group Inc. (TCN) will buy Silver Bay Realty Trust Corp. (SBY) for $21.50 a share in a deal valued at $1.4 billion, the Canadian company announced late Monday. The transaction includes about $820 million in equities and $600 million of Silver Bay debt.

Priceline Group Inc. (PCLN), the online travel company, posted robust quarterly earnings. Priceline reported fourth-quarter earnings rose to $673.9 million, or $13.47 a share, from $504.3 million, or $10 a share, a year earlier. Revenue rose 21% to $2.35 billion.
