Stocks Ended Higher, Dow Booked Fresh Record

U.S. stocks closed with modest gains on Tuesday, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average booked fresh record. The Dow industrial Average rose 35.47 points, or 0.18%, to 19,251.71. The S&P 500 gained 7.52 points, or 0.34%, to 2,212.23. The Nasdaq Composite added 24.11 points, or 0.45%, to 5,333.00.

Oil futures finished lower Tuesday for the first time in five sessions, as some market surveys revealed further increases in crude production last month from the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries. January West Texas Intermediate futures fell by 86 cents, or 1.7%, to settle at $50.93 a barrel. February Brent crude lost $1.01, or 1.8%, to $53.93 a barrel.

SoftBank Group Corp. Chairman and Chief Executive Masayoshi Son said Tuesday he would invest $50 billion in the U.S. and create 50,000 new jobs, following a 45-minute private meeting with President-elect Donald Trump.
