Stocks Ended Mixed as Apple Weighed

U.S. stocks closed mixed on Wednesday, as Apple’s results weighed on the markets. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 30.06 points, or 0.17%, to 18,199.33. The S&P 500 was down 3.73 points, or 0.17%, to 2,139.43. The Nasdaq Composite fell 33.13 points, or 0.63%, to 5,250.27.

Oil prices settled at their lowest level in about three weeks on Wednesday, pressured by growing doubts over the success of OPEC’s plan to curb production. December West Texas Intermediate crude fell by 78 cents, or 1.6%, to settle at $49.18 a barrel. December Brent crude fell 81 cents, or 1.6%, to $49.98 a barrel.

A change in the way Tesla Motors Inc. will report quarterly results after today’s market close has created a bit of a last-minute headache for analysts, with earnings estimates varying widely.

Boeing Co (BA.N) will not cut production of the 777 jetliner by more than two planes a month and is taking more time to decide on whether a cut is even needed, Chief Executive Dennis Muilenburg said on Wednesday.
