Stocks Ended Mostly Lower ahead of Fed Statement

U.S. stocks ended broadly lower on Tuesday, as commodity-related shares declined and nervousness increased ahead of a Federal Reserve statement. The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 128.34 points, or 0.71%, to 17,849.08. The S&P 500 was down 6.91 points or 0.33%, to 2,074.28. The Nasdaq Composite gained 7.93 points, or 0.16%, to 4,937.44.

Oracle Corp reported flat revenue for its fiscal third-quarter on Tuesday, held back by the recent rise in the U.S. dollar. The business software and database company reported sales of $9.3 billion, the same as the quarter a year ago.

Adobe Systems Inc. (ADBE) on Tuesday reported fiscal first-quarter earnings of $84.9 million. The San Jose, California-based company
said it had profit of 17 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, were 44 cents per share.

Five drug makers are pooling a total of $100 million in a venture capital fund along with the British government and a charity to help
find treatments for Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia, reports said Tuesday.
