Stocks Opened Slightly Lower Before Yellen

U.S. stocks opened slightly lower on Friday ahead of Federal Reserve Chairwoman Janet Yellen taking center stage at a
high-profile gathering of the world’s central bankers. The Dow Jones Industrial Average lately lost 21.25 points, or
0.12%, to 17,018.24. The S&P 500 fell 4.88 points, or 0.24%, to 1,987.49. The Nasdaq Composite lost 7.94 points, or
0.18%, to 4,524.16.

Dynegy Inc. has agreed to pay $6.25 billion to buy 12,500 megawatts of coal and gas generation assets from Duke Energy Corp. and Energy Capital Partners, a deal that would nearly double its power generation capacity.

Suppliers to Apple Inc are scrambling to get enough screens ready for the new iPhone 6 smartphone as the need to redesign a key component disrupted panel production ahead of next month’s expected launch, supply chain sources said.

GameStop said its quarterly profit more than doubled on strong sales of new consoles. It earned $24.6 million, or 22 cents per share, in its second quarter ended Aug. 2. Sales increased 25 percent to $1.73 billion.
