Dow’s Weekly Loss Worst Since January

U.S. stocks ended lower on Friday, leaving the Dow Jones Industrial Average with its biggest weekly drop in more than six months. The Dow dropped 69.93 points, or 0.42%, to 16,493.37 and recorded a weekly tumble of 2.8%. The S&P 500 fell 5.52 points, or 0.29%, to 1,925.15 and endured a weekly loss of 2.7%. The Nasdaq Composite was down 17.13 points, or 0.39%, to 4,352.64,leaving it down 2.2% for the week.

Auto makers sold 1.435 million cars and light trucks inn the U.S. last month, up 9.1% from a year earlier, lifting the seasonally-adjusted annualized selling rate to 16.48 million, up from 15.76 million vehicles in 2013, according to researcher Autodata Corp.

Procter & Gamble CEO A.G. Lafley declared Friday the company will sell or exit 90 to 100 mostly minor brands in a bold attempt to refocus the business behind its 70 to 80 remaining best-selling brands.
