S&P, Dow Set Record Highs

U.S. stocks ended higher on Friday, with the S&P 500 and the Dow Jones Industrial Average closing at all-time highs. The Dow rose 25.62 points, or 0.15%, to 16,947.08. The S&P 500 gained 3.39 points, or 0.17%, to 1,962.87.The Nasdaq Composite added 8.71 points, or 0.20%, to 4,368.04.

Gov. Rick Scott announced that Florida is now a leader among the states in job gains, unemployment rate decline and growth in job demand.

The Texas and Abilene economy continued its upward trend of job growth in May 2014 from the same period last
year, a new report released by Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) on Friday showed.

AbbVie Inc. (ABBV) yesterday revealed a $46.5 billion takeover bid for Shire in the first public acquisition approach for the specialty drugmaker after years of takeover speculation. While Shire rejected the offer, AbbVie is already considering raising it, two people familiar with the matter said.

RadioShack Corp.’s stock dropped below $1 per share today, a sign that the company could soon be delisted from the New York Stock Exchange.
