Dow, S&P 500 Closed at Record Levels

U.S. stocks closed marginally higher on Tuesday, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S&P 500 setting at record levels for the second straight day. The Dow rose 19.97 points, or 0.12%, to 16,715.44. The S&P 500 was up 0.80 point, or 0.04%, to 1,897.45. The Nasdaq Composite was down 13.69 points, or 0.33%, at 4,130.17.

The regulator of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac laid out plans for the government-run companies on Tuesday that could make it easier for Americans to obtain mortgages, marking a sharp departure from a predecessor who wanted to aggressively shrink their role in the housing finance market.

Coca-Cola Co. said Tuesday that it would increase its stake in Keurig Green Mountain Inc. to 16% from 10% as the world’s largest beverage company deepens its exposure to coffee and countertop carbonation.
