Dow, S&P 500 Closed at New Highs

U.S. stocks jumped on Monday as the Dow Jones industrial average and the S&P 500 both closed at a new all-time highs. At close, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 112.13 points, or 0.68%, to 16,695.47, the S&P 500 gained 18.17 points, or 0.97%, to 1,896.65 and the Nasdaq Composite added 71.99 points, or 1.77% to 4,143.86.

The U.S. government recorded a budget surplus of $107 billion in April, the Treasury Department
reported Monday, a smaller windfall than in the same month last year. The surplus for April is $6
billion, or 5%, lower than in April 2013.

Chrysler Group LLC, the U.S. automaker owned by Fiat SpA (F), lost $690 million in the first quarter
when it bought the shares held by a union retiree medical trust, paving the way for integration of the
companies.

The Italian government, banks and Alitalia shareholders agreed on Monday that talks should continue
with Gulf-based airline Etihad over a potential link-up, a government statement said.
