Stock Rally, S&P 500 Closes at Record

U.S. stocks finished another week of gains with the S&P 500 index at a record high after
earnings from large technology companies Microsoft Corp. and Amazon.com Inc. wowed investors with revenue growth. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 61.07 points, or 0.39%, to 15,570.28. The S&P 500 added 7.70 points, or 0.44%, to 1,759.77. The Nasdaq Composite gained 14.40 points, or 0.37%, to 3,943.36.

The total value of the claims that market makers can recover after suffering losses due to
Nasdaq OMX Group Inc’s botched handling of Facebook Inc’s initial public offering is $41.6 million, the exchange operator said Friday.

The U.S. Department of Transportation said it fined United Airlines (UAL) $1.1 million on
Friday, the largest fine assessed for a tarmac-delay violation since the rule limiting long
delays took effect in April 2010.
