Stocks Ended Up But Well Off Intraday Highs

U.S. stocks ended up but well off intraday highs on Monday, as a light news flow kept many investors to the sidelines. The Dow Jones Industrial Average ended up 21.34 points, or 0.16%, to 13,117.51. The S&P 500  rose 3.24 points, or 0.23%, to 1,394.23. The Nasdaq Composite rose 22.01 points, or 0.74%, to 2,989.91.

EBay Inc is testing a same-day delivery service with big retailers including Target Corp , Best Buy Co and Toys “R” Us Inc , as the world’s largest online marketplace steps up competition with rival Amazon.com Inc .

The New York Stock Exchange said on Monday it is in talks with U.S. securities regulators to settle allegations that the exchange violated rules intended to promote fair competition.
 
Leap Wireless International Inc. reported fiscal second-quarter results that fell short of Wall Street analysts’ forecasts. Leap said it lost $41.6 million, or 54 cents a share, on revenue of $786.8 million, compared with a loss of $58.4 million, or 85 cents a share, on $760.5 million in sales in the same period a year ago.
