Stocks Ended Higher, Dow Posted Record Close

U.S. stocks ended higher on Tuesday , with the Dow Jones Industrial Average posting a record close, supported by earnings results that continued to come in ahead of expectations. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 167.80 points, or 0.72%, to 23,441.76. The S&P 500 gained 4.15 points, or 0.16%, to 2,569.13. The Nasdaq Composite added 11.60 points, or 0.18%, to 6,598.43.
Oil climbed Tuesday, as Saudi Arabia reiterated a pledge to help balance the global crude market and geopolitical turmoil threatened global inventories, lifting U.S. prices to their highest finish since mid-April. December West Texas Intermediate crude rose 57 cents, or 1.1%, to settle at $52.47 a barrel. Brent oil for December delivery rose 96 cents, or 1.7%, to $58.33 a barrel.
Chipotle on Tuesday reported third-quarter earnings that missed analysts’ forecasts following recent hurricanes and costs related to a data breach. It reported earnings per share of $0.69 and adjusted EPS of $1.33. Revenue totaled $1.13 billion. Sales at stores open for at least one year rose 1%.
AT&T reported quarterly earnings and revenue that came in just shy of analysts’ expectations on Tuesday. It reported EPS of 74 cents, revenue of $39.67 billion. In the year-ago quarter, the mobile giant reported adjusted earnings of 74 cents on $40.89 billion in revenue.
